This season marked our very first time growing Natascha potatoes at Nature’s Circle Farm, and we’ve been nothing short of impressed. From the very beginning, they stood out in the field, and in the kitchen.
Natascha is a yellow-fleshed, early variety known for its exceptional yield and stunning golden color, both inside and out. The tubers are long-oval with shallow eyes and a smooth, silky skin. What’s remarkable is that despite their productivity, the size remains moderate, making them perfect for everything from roasting to boiling, without the need for cutting down oversized spuds.
We’ve found the flavor of Natascha to be deep, creamy, and rich, comparable to the beloved German Butterball. It has a velvety mouthfeel that makes it ideal for simple preparations where the potato’s natural flavor can shine. Whether tossed with herbs, mashed, or featured in a warm potato salad, Natascha delivers comfort in every bite.
One of the reasons we chose to trial Natascha this year was its reputation for disease resistance. It has shown strong tolerance to rhizoctonia, black leg, and tuber rots, as well as potato virus Y and bruising, a trait we always look for in varieties we plan to grow at scale. These traits not only support healthier crops, but also make post-harvest handling more reliable and efficient.
The most rewarding part of growing Natascha has been the enthusiastic response from our customers. It's always exciting when a variety resonates so strongly with the potato-growing community, and Natascha has certainly done that.
We’re excited to continue growing and learning with this variety and will be watching how it stores and performs in different dishes through the winter. If you haven’t tried Natascha potatoes yet, keep an eye out next season, they might just become your new favorite.
